Lixin Wu
Character introduction
WU has held a number of prominent positions like member of Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress, China, and is one of the early pioneers in scientific committee of the NPOCE, first big international marine program initiated by China. As an internationally-recognized physical oceanographer, WU’s research explores ocean circulation and climate change. He is committed to shape the success of Chinese marine community and China’s ability to find solutions to ocean and climate challenges through collaboration and innovation in marine science and technology. WU leads the efforts of Transparentizing Global Oceans, endorsed by the UN “Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development” (2021-2030), which has continuously expanded China’s excellence and impact on establishing comprehensive observation network to deepen our understanding to the ocean and better marine prediction. In 2018, WU was awarded the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award of China.
Topic: Transparentizing Global Oceans and Maritime Community with a shared future for Mankind
Abstract Ocean is shared by the whole community and no marine issues could be solved by a single institution or even a country. As China’s only national marine lab, QNLM has shouldered the responsibility and lead global efforts to tackle these challenges in ocean and climate by Building an International Transparent Ocean Community under the framework of our big project Transparentizing Global Oceans which has been endorsed by the UN “Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development”, and fundamentally improves marine observation, deepens human understanding to ocean mechanism and betters prediction techniques. Since its launching in 2015, QNLM’s contribution to building a community of shared future for mankind is reflected in the successful launching of CSHOR, iHESP and the other joint institutions with our international partners to work together for addressing global climate issues and bring benefits to the well-being of the whole world.
