Research and achievements
Main research fields are the heavy-ion physics and mega-science projects of accelerator from low to high energy, include the radioactive ion beam physics, new isotope synthesis and mass measurement, the TOF prototype of RHIC-PHENIX, radioactive ion beam separator (RIBLL) and the key national mega-science programs “Cooling Storage Ring based on Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou, (HIRFL-CSR) construction and basic researches, the application of heavy ion therapy. Recently, being the coordinator of HIAF & CIADS projects for the basic research of heavy ion, the nuclear power and targeted isotope medicine.

Topic: Progress of Nuclear Research Center in Great Bay

Abstract  Nuclear Research Center in Huizhou cover the nuclear structure, astrophysics, hadron physics, high energy density plasmas matter, the special issues of foundation physics, accelerator driven advance nuclear energy system and associate applications based on intensive charged particles. Therefore, two large scale accelerator facilities, Highly Intensive Accelerator Facility (HIAF) and Chinese Initial Accelerator Driven System (CIADS), are under constructing. HIAF accelerates the ions from proton to uranium with intensities from 1010/ppp~1013/ppp and produces 2nd rare isotope beams, meson beams in energy up to 10GeV. CIADS is 10MW accelerator driven subcritical system, which consists a 2.5MW beam power Super-Conductor Linac (SCL), the >2.5MW spallation target, the blanket and few experimental terminals. Their main performances will be enhanced further by during Great Bay developing. The 1st phase of construction will be finish in 2025.
Now, there some hardware are under fabrication, the key techniques are under optimizing, ex.: SCL of injector (prototype in the world) is commissioning up to 33kW CW beam power with >89% beam availability in 100hr operation, the civil infrastructure is constructing smoothly.
